Prairie State Bank & Trust is an Illinois state-chartered community bank, providing banking services to our customers throughout central Illinois via 18 locations. Prairie State Bank & Trust is owned by American Central Bancorporation, Inc.Prairie State Bank & Trust’s roots date back to 1968, beginning with Farmers & Traders State Bank of Meredosia. The Bank of Charleston was chartered in 1973. We significantly expanded our banking business during the 1980’s by purchasing, and thus preserving, community banks that failed during the challenging economic pressures of that decade. In 1982, Farmers & Merchants State Bank of Virden was acquired. In 1988, the Mt. Zion State Bank was acquired and renamed Mt. Zion State Bank & Trust. During that same year, the Farmers State Bank of Illiopolis was acquired and renamed the Farmers State Bank & Trust. Later in 1988, Farmers State Bank & Trust opened a branch on Toronto Road in Springfield. Also during the 1980’s, Farmers State Bank of Fulton County in Lewistown was acquired, which today remains a sister bank to Prairie State Bank & Trust, operating under common ownership.
