History
Edgar County National Bank in Paris was chartered in 1873 and has operated continuously in Edgar County since its inception. In 1975 application was made to the Regulators to change the charter from a National Bank to a State Bank. Therefore, the name changed to the current name of The Edgar County Bank & Trust Co. In 1989, the Board of Directors sought buyers for the stock as there was dissension among the Directors and major shareholders. That same year, the controlling interest in Edgar County Bank & Trust Co. was purchased by a local businessman.
The Bank’s first branch was the Brocton facility which was established in 1982. In 1997, the Bank acquired the branch facility in Ashmore, and in 1998 the Bank acquired the State Bank of Kansas.
